David Sader: A Strong Voice for Battle River – Crowfoot
Putting Our Communities First
Hello, friends, neighbours, and residents of Battle River – Crowfoot. My name is David Sader, and I am honoured to seek your trust and your vote in this important by-election. Battle River – Crowfoot is a special place, built on the hard work, strong values, and resilience of its people. As your Member of Parliament, I promise to be a dedicated advocate, ensuring our voices are heard loud and clear in Ottawa.
My platform is built on common sense, fiscal responsibility, and a deep understanding of the issues that matter most to you. It’s about empowering our communities, supporting our industries, and ensuring a prosperous future for all.
Treaty Land Acknowledgement:
I would like to begin by acknowledging that the federal riding of Battle River – Crowfoot is located on the traditional territories of various Indigenous peoples, including Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 territories. This land is the ancestral home and traditional gathering place of the Cree, Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, and Métis Nations. We recognize and respect the history, languages, and cultures of the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have called this land home for generations, and we are committed to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
About David Sader:
For over three decades, I had the privilege of serving our community as a dedicated teacher, helping to shape the minds and futures of countless students. Beyond the classroom, I’ve always believed in the power of sport to build character and community. Many of you may know me from the basketball court, where I coached with passion and commitment, or from the soccer field, where I guided young athletes. Even now, you’ll find me actively involved as a volleyball referee, continuing to contribute to the local sports scene. My wife, Lisa, also plays a vital role in our local economy, working for a company that proudly provides essential services to the oil and gas industry – a sector critical to our region’s prosperity. Our three sons have all benefited from strong educational opportunities, attending Lakeland College, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Alberta, underscoring our family’s commitment to education and preparing the next generation. Outside of my professional and sporting life, I have a deep love for music, especially enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of summer music festivals, the intimate settings of local folk clubs, and the energy of live music performances. These experiences have taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and hard work – values I will bring with me to Ottawa as your representative. I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and triumphs our families face, and I’m ready to bring that perspective to the federal level.
Platform Pillars:
- Economic Prosperity and Support for Local Industries:
- Championing Agriculture: Agriculture is the backbone of Battle River – Crowfoot. I will advocate for policies that support our farmers and ranchers, reduce regulatory burdens, ensure fair market access, and promote innovation in the agricultural sector. This includes defending supply management where it serves our producers and fighting for a level playing field against international competitors.
- Energy Sector Advocacy: Alberta’s energy sector is vital to our national economy and provides good-paying jobs right here in our riding. I will be a strong voice for responsible energy development, advocating for pipelines, opposing carbon taxes that hurt our competitiveness, and supporting technological advancements that reduce environmental impact while ensuring energy security.
- Small Business Support: Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local economies. I will push for tax relief, reduced red tape, and programs that help local businesses thrive, create jobs, and contribute to our community’s vibrancy.
- Fiscal Responsibility and Lowering the Cost of Living:
- Fighting Inflation: The rising cost of living is impacting every household. I will advocate for sound fiscal policies that rein in government spending, reduce the national debt, and work towards bringing down inflation to make life more affordable for families, seniors, and businesses.
- Tax Relief: I believe Canadians work hard for their money, and the government should take less of it. I will push for meaningful tax cuts for individuals and families, allowing you to keep more of your hard-earned income.
- Affordable Housing Solutions: Access to safe and affordable housing is a growing concern for many families. I will advocate for federal initiatives that support the development of diverse housing options, including affordable rental units and pathways to homeownership, ensuring that more residents can find a place to call home within their means.
- Affordable Dental Care and Prescription Drugs: The cost of essential healthcare, beyond what is covered by provincial plans, is a significant burden for many. I will champion federal programs and work with all levels of government to ensure that residents of Battle River – Crowfoot have access to affordable dental care and prescription medications. No one should have to choose between their health and their financial well-being.
- Ending Wasteful Spending: I will scrutinize government spending and fight against wasteful projects and programs, ensuring that your tax dollars are used efficiently and effectively.
- Strengthening Our Communities:
- Ensuring Access to Healthcare and Local Doctors: Our rural communities deserve timely access to quality healthcare services and local doctors. I will relentlessly advocate for federal investments and collaborative solutions with provincial partners to address doctor and nurse shortages, improve emergency services, and enhance access to primary care close to home. It is crucial that residents of Battle River – Crowfoot can see a local doctor when they need one, and I will champion policies that support and retain healthcare professionals in our region.
- Investing in Quality Education: As a retired teacher, I know firsthand the importance of strong schools and accessible post-secondary opportunities. I will advocate for federal support that enhances the quality of education at all levels, from early childhood learning to trades training and university programs like those my sons attended. This means ensuring our students have the resources they need to succeed and are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.
- Investment in Local Multi-Use Sport Facilities for Youth: As a former coach and active referee, I’ve seen the incredible positive impact that sports and recreation have on our youth. I will champion federal funding and partnerships to develop and upgrade local multi-use sport facilities. These facilities provide safe and engaging spaces for young people to stay active, develop skills, and build strong character, contributing to healthier and more vibrant communities across Battle River – Crowfoot.
- Infrastructure Investment: Reliable infrastructure is crucial for growth. I will advocate for investments in local roads, bridges, broadband internet, and other essential infrastructure projects that connect our communities and support economic activity.
- Public Safety: Our communities deserve to feel safe. I will support law enforcement and advocate for policies that deter crime and hold criminals accountable, ensuring a secure environment for our families and businesses.
- Supporting Veterans and Seniors: Our veterans have served our country with honour, and our seniors have built our communities. I will advocate for strong support programs, fair pensions, and accessible services for both these vital groups.
- Fostering Diversity and Inclusivity: Our communities are enriched by the diverse backgrounds and experiences of all who call Battle River – Crowfoot home. I believe in fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. I will champion initiatives that promote understanding, address discrimination, and ensure that all residents have equal opportunities to participate and thrive in our vibrant communities.
- Respect for Individual Freedoms and Rural Values:
- Defending Property Rights: I believe in the fundamental right to own and enjoy private property. I will oppose any legislation or policies that infringe upon these rights.
- Responsible Gun Ownership: I will defend the rights of law-abiding firearms owners and oppose measures that unfairly target hunters, sport shooters, and farmers who use firearms for legitimate purposes.
- Local Decision-Making: I believe in empowering local communities and reducing the influence of Ottawa in decisions best made at the local level. I will advocate for greater autonomy for our municipalities and a bottom-up approach to governance.
- National Unity and Global Stability:
- A United Canada for a Prosperous Future: In an increasingly uncertain world, a united Canada is paramount. We must stand together, not divided by regional differences or political rhetoric. I believe in fostering a strong national identity where every province and territory feels valued and heard, ensuring that we can collectively face challenges and seize opportunities. A house united is always stronger than a house divided.
- Protecting Canadian Interests on the World Stage: The global landscape presents both challenges and opportunities for Canada’s prosperity. When faced with external pressures, including potential threats to our economic stability or trade relationships from international figures like Donald Trump, it is crucial that Canada speaks with one strong, clear voice. I will advocate for robust diplomacy and strategic partnerships to protect Canadian jobs, industries, and sovereignty, ensuring our nation’s prosperity is secure in a complex world.
My Commitment to You:
As your Member of Parliament, I will be accessible, responsive, and truly represent the values and concerns of Battle River – Crowfoot.
